The piano is traditionally a solo instrument with limited opportunities in local and professional orchestras. The Tulsa Youth Keyboard Orchestra (TYKO), a 501 c(3) nonprofit organization, has a mission to provide opportunities for young pianists in northeastern Oklahoma, in order to expand their knowledge and experience in the areas of orchestral training and performance. Our goal is to inspire creativity, self-confidence, and a love for music in an exciting and joyful environment. TYKO provides the first collaborating, sight-reading, rehearsing, performing, and socializing environment for all local students. Being a piano student is no longer a solo venture - join the fun this season!
Comprised of 10-12 keyboards, each orchestra will learn arrangements of popular, seasonal, and classical pieces composed for piano and orchestral ensembles. TYKO is a performance orchestra - not a group piano class! Each student will have their own part that they are responsible for. Students will acquire knowledge in following a conductor, learning to balance tone with their peers, excel in sight-reading, the list goes on!
Don't have a keyboard? No problem! We will provide one for you at rehearsals and concerts.
All members must be current piano students. Don't have a teacher? No problem! Contact us and we will send you a referral list of teachers in your area.
Rehearsals are scheduled on Monday afternoons in South Tulsa. We follow the Jenks Public Schools calendar and will not have rehearsals on holidays or breaks. Performance opportunities will include the Brush Creek Bazaar, Woodland Hills Mall, Mayfest, and more! Check out the calendar:
